My Journey at NYU Tandon: Engineering a Future in the Power Industry
Throughout my time at Tandon, I have been actively involved in programs that have shaped my academic, professional, and personal growth. I mentored five incoming freshmen through the Academic Achievement Program AAP and served as a Resident Assistant at Brittany Hall during the 2024 to 2025 academic year, supporting 42 residents. I now serve as a Resident Assistant again for the 2025 to 2026 academic year, supporting 35 first year residents. Beyond these leadership roles, I am a member of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and Tandon Motorsports. I am also part of Tandon’s Honors program, Global Leaders and Scholars in STEM (GLASS) and have been recognized as a Tandon STEM Scholar in 2023 through the Horatio Alger Association.
With the support GLASS has provided throughout my time at Tandon, I’ve been able to take advantage of opportunities I never imagined I would have. In Summer 2024 and Summer 2025, I interned with EATON Powering Business Worldwide. Growing up, my dad, an electrician, took me to work with him from a young age. That early exposure sparked my interest in the electrical field, and before I knew it, I found myself drawn to the high voltage side of the field. During my internships, I gained hands on experience with low voltage equipment less than or equal to 1000 volts, including switchboards, switchgear, variable frequency drives, automatic transfer switches, transformers, and more. These experiences gave me valuable insight into the role of power grids and electrical infrastructure in ensuring reliability and efficiency. Looking ahead, I am focused on pushing innovation in transmission and distribution within the power sector, particularly in power systems, and energy infrastructure.
Outside of academics and my route of career interest, I enjoy a few hobbies that keep me grounded and active. This includes listening to music, running, riding my motorcycle, snowboarding, baseball, and getting lost in hands on projects. Recently I have been into the RC hobby and I am currently building an 1/10 scale Jeep. Once I complete the Jeep, I plan to modify my sport bike with performance parts to make it more trackable.
Overall, my experience and time starting from my first semester to now, with one semester left before graduation, has given me clarity, purpose, and a drive to innovate. As I continue growing in this field, my goal remains the same: to push the boundaries of power and energy, one system, one circuit, and one breakthrough at a time.
Program Impact
The GLASS program has been a formative part of my experience as an electrical engineering student. It connected me with peers and mentors who share a strong interest in innovation and technology, while also emphasizing global leadership and entrepreneurship. Through this lens, I was encouraged to think beyond traditional engineering roles and consider how technical work can address real world challenges. Through workshops, networking opportunities, and collaborative projects, GLASS helped me strengthen both my technical foundation and leadership skills. Overall, the program has played a key role in shaping me into a more thoughtful and socially conscious engineer.
TakeAway
The GLASS program is more than an academic initiative. It is a platform for growth, innovation, and global engagement. I am truly thankful for the opportunities it has opened for me, and I look forward to building on these experiences as I continue progressing in my career.
What I enjoyed the most
The study abroad experience was undoubtedly the highlight of my time in the program. Studying in the United Arab Emirates was something I never imagined, and it exceeded all expectations.
I had the chance to:
Immerse myself in a different culture and travel to nearby regions.
Form meaningful friendships and engage with diverse perspectives.
Experience a world-class education at NYUAD.
This unforgettable journey broadened my worldview and left me with cherished memories and a profound sense of gratitude for the transformative power of international education.
