My Journey at NYU Tandon: Engineering a Future in the Power Industry
Throughout my time at Tandon, I have been actively involved in programs that have shaped my academic, professional, and personal growth. I have mentored five incoming freshmen through the Academic Achievement Program AAP and served as a Resident Assistant at Brittany Hall for the 2024 to 2025 academic year, supporting 42 residents. I currently serve as a Resident Assistant at Brittany Hall once again for the 2025 to 2026 academic year, supporting 35 first year residents. Beyond these leadership roles, I am a member of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers SHPE, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers IEEE, and Tandon Motorsports. I am also part of Tandons honors program GLASS Global Leaders and Scholars in STEM and have been recognized as a Tandon STEM Scholar through the Horatio Alger Association.
Thankfully, with the support GLASS has provided, I have been able to take advantage of opportunities I never imagined I would attain. In Summer 2024 and Summer 2025, I interned with EATON Powering Business Worldwide. Growing up, my dad, an electrician, took me to work with him from a young age. That early exposure sparked my interest in the electrical field, and before I knew it, I found myself drawn to the high voltage aspect of things. During these internships I gained experience with equipment considered low voltage which is less than or equal to 1000 volts. This equipment included switchboards, switchgear, variable frequency drives, automatic transfer switches, transformers, and much more. These experiences have given me valuable insight into the critical role of power grids, electrical infrastructure, and high voltage equipment in ensuring reliability and efficiency. Looking ahead, I am focused on pushing innovation in transmission and distribution within the power sector, particularly in power systems, high voltage engineering, and energy infrastructure.
Outside of academics and my route of career interest, I enjoy a few hobbies that keep me grounded and active. This includes listening to music, running, riding my motorcycle, snowboarding, baseball, and getting lost in hands on projects. Recently I have been into the RC hobby and I am currently building an RC Jeep. Once I complete the Jeep, I plan to modify my sport bike with performance parts to make it more trackable.
Overall, my experience and time starting from my first semester to now, with one semester left before graduation, has given me clarity, purpose, and a drive to innovate. As I continue growing in this field, my goal remains the same: to push the boundaries of power and energy, one system, one circuit, and one breakthrough at a time.
Program Impact
The GLASS program has been a transformative experience for me as a student studying electrical engineering. It has connected me with like-minded peers and mentors who share a passion for innovation and technology. The program’s focus on global leadership and entrepreneurship has expanded my perspective, encouraging me to think beyond traditional engineering roles and explore ways to tackle real-world challenges. Through workshops, networking events, and collaborative projects, GLASS has empowered me to enhance both my technical expertise and leadership abilities. This experience has prepared me to be a socially conscious engineer capable of making a meaningful impact on the world.
TakeAway
The GLASS program is more than an academic initiative. It is a platform for growth, innovation, and global engagement. I am truly thankful for the opportunities it has opened for me, and I look forward to building on these experiences as I continue progressing in my career.
What I enjoyed the most
The study abroad experience was undoubtedly the highlight of my time in the program. Studying in the United Arab Emirates was something I never imagined, and it exceeded all expectations.
I had the chance to:
Immerse myself in a different culture and travel to nearby regions.
Form meaningful friendships and engage with diverse perspectives.
Experience a world-class education at NYUAD that served as a catalyst for personal growth.
This unforgettable journey broadened my worldview and deepened my appreciation for global dynamics, leaving me with cherished memories and a profound sense of gratitude for the transformative power of international education.
